NEWS RELEASE FIVE ROBBERY ARRESTS, TWO GUNS SEIZED, AND STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED OVER WEEKEND BY HARTFORD POLICE. (Hartford) - As a result of a variety of law enforcement details through the city, Hartford Police made five robbery arrest, seized two guns, and recovered a stolen vehicle this weekend. On Saturday, December 4, 2004, at 1:40 a.m., HPD officers observed shots fired and a fleeing vehicle at the corner of Grand and Babcock Streets. During a canvass of the area officers learned of a robbery victim and several individuals who had been shot from occupants of a white Oldsmobile Cutlass, bearing Connecticut plate number 151RYO, with a for sale sign in the window. A general broadcast was dispatched for all units to be on the look out for the suspect vehicle. At 0223 hours, HPD officers located the suspect vehicle traveling east on Park Street, where it was stopped in the area of 272 Jefferson Street without incident. Arrested and charged with robbery in the first degree, larceny in the second degree and assault in the third degree was Juan Perez, AKA Jose Ortiz-Cruz, Jose Cruz, and Jose Ortiz, DOB 9/8/82, of 44 Garden Street, Hartford, and Ana Aguilar, DOB 6/28/77, of 71 Allen Place, Hartford. Both remained in policy custody on $250,000 and $100,000 bond respectively, pending arraignment in Hartford Superior Court. On Friday, December 3, 2004, at 2036 hours two suspects robbed the Anacona Grocery Store, located at 1028 Broad Street, Hartford. The suspects, who took the cash register and cartons of cigarettes, were last seen running behind 245 Jefferson Street. At 2041 hours on December 5, 2004, HPD responded to a 911 call from the owner of Anacona Grocery that the December 3rd robbery suspects had once again entered the store. Responding HPD officers apprehended both suspects along with a facsimile handgun. Arrested and charged with two counts of robbery in the first degree and larceny in the second degree were Juan Ramon Torrez, AKA Jose Javier Arroyo and Macho, DOB 4/22/72, of 1599 Park Street, and Jeffrey Acevedo, AKA Hector Rosado, Hector Acevedo, Jeffrey Rosado and Jeffrey Rosa, DOB 5/21/71, of 302 Garden Street, Hartford. Torrez was also charged with assault with a firearm in the second degree, violation of a town ordinance, and failure to respond to an infraction. Torrez' and Acevedo's bonds were set at $301,000 and $175,000 respectively, pending arraignment in Hartford Superior Court. On December 3, 2004, at 0200 hours, in the area of 169 Babcock Street, Hartford Police units were conducting an investigation of suspicious activity in the rear garage of 169 Babcock Street, when they recovered a stolen 1998 Acura Integra reported stolen from Berlin, Connecticut. Numerous motor vehicle parts were also recovered from the garage. On December 3, 2004, at 1903 hours, in the area of 3 Wethersfield Avenue, an area of numerous neighborhood quality of life complaints, a HPD Officer Gamaliel Perez made an arrest for loitering in front of 3 Wethersfield Avenue. During a search incidental to the arrest, Officer Perez located a .38 caliber Colt Cobra revolver in the waistband of the suspect pants. Inasmuch as the party did not possess a pistol permit to carry the weapon, Officer Perez seized the weapon. Charged with loitering, possession of a controlled substance, carrying a pistol without a permit, and criminal possession of a revolver was Charles Barker, AKA Charles Baker, Willie James Barker, Willie Sharp, and Charles Parker, DOB 12/22/45, of 75 Main Street, Hartford. Barker's bond was set at $150,000 pending arraignment in Hartford Superior Court. On December 4, 2004 at 2129 hours, Hartford Police responded to a report of a robbery with a gun at Albany Avenue and Kent Street. Upon arrival HPD officers met with the victim who stated that he was robbed at gunpoint by two suspects, both dressed in black, who fled south on Kent Street, then cut through the rear yards towards Adams Street. Shortly thereafter, HPD units spotted the suspect running through the rear yards of Adams Street. A suspect was apprehended, after a brief foot pursuit, and positively identified by the victim and a witness. The area was canvassed for a second suspect with negative results, however, a .45 caliber Colt revolver was recovered in the rear of 51 Adams Street. Arrested and charged with robbery two counts of robbery in the first degree, larceny in the second degree, carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal use of a firearm, larceny in the third degree, and altering an identification on a pistol was Anthony Bynoe, AKA Anthony Byner, DOB 1/19/87 of 8 Carpenter Lane, Bloomfield, Connecticut. Bynoe's bond was set at $200,000 pending arraignment in Hartford Superior Court.
