HARTFORD POLICE CONDUCT THREE UNDERCOVER NARCOTICS OPERATIONS OVER WEEKEND.

(Hartford) - HPD Vice and Narcotics detectives conducted three undercover operations this weekend targeting street level illegal drug trafficking in the Nelton Court area of the city.  The operations were designed in response to numerous community complaints of violence and open air narcotics dealing in the Nelton Court Housing Complex, and as part of the Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez' and HPD Chief Patrick J. Harnett's Youth Violence Initiative.  Sixteen (16) arrests were made on a variety of narcotics charges, as follows:

On Friday, December 10, 2004, at approximately 1800 hours, at Nelton Court, Vice and Narcotics detectives arrested the following four (4) individuals:  Eric Burgos, DOB 8/13/75, of 20 East Hartford Street, charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, and possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school, $20,000 bond; Roderick Mathews, DOB 6/24/75, of 47 Nelton Court, charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics, and possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school, $20,000 bond; and Robert Hall, DOB 12/31/68, of 197 Cornwall Street, and John Sailor, DOB 10/30/61, of 66 Greenfield Street, both charged with possession of a controlled substance and released on a Written Promise of Appear in Hartford Superior Court.

On Saturday, December 11, 2004, at approximately 1600 hours, Vice and Narcotics detectives conducted another undercover operation in the Nelton Court Housing Complex area and made eight (8) arrests on charges ranging from possession of a controlled substance, sale of narcotics, and criminal trespass.  Arrested were: Terrence Darnell Artis, DOB 9/9/71, of 103 Mary Shepards Place, Hartford; Richard Earl McCarthy, DOB 1024/82, of 762 Garden Street, Hartford; Trevor Ramsey, DOB 3/4/67, of 55 Nelson Street; Victor Esteves, DOB 4/27/74, of 99 Ellington Street, Hartford; Norberto Rodriquez, DOB 12/10/73, of 105 Franklin Avenue; Benjamin Homar, DOB 6/29/77, of 1588 Corbin Avenue, New Britain, Connecticut, Robert William, DOB 11/26/80, of 11 Circle Drive, Burlington, and Juan Rosario, 11/11/83, of 54 Norwich Street, Hartford.

On December 12, 2004, at approximately 1355 hours, at HPD Vice and Narcotics detectives conducted an undercover drug operation at 112 Brook Street which resulted four (4) arrests on numerous narcotics violations.  Arrested were: Devron Watts, DOB 10/12/67, of 59 East Morningside Street, Hartford; Regional Gilbert, DOB 10/23/62, of 6 Winter Street, Hartford; William Cooper, DOB 2/19/69, of 388 Garden Street, Hartford; and Marc Mendes, DOB 2/13/69, of 63 Deming Road, Glastonbury.

In commenting on the undercover illegal narcotics operations, HPD Vice and Narcotics Commander, Lieutenant Harold Even said, "We want to send a message to those participating in illegal drug activity in our city that we will not tolerate these shootings and violence associated with this drug activity.  We will continue to target specific locations throughout the city as part the our initiative to curb youth violence."
