PUBLIC SAFETY NEWS
From the City of Hartford Office of Communications and New Media

For Immediate Release:     Thursday, June 14, 2012

MAYOR SEGARRA AND CHIEF ROVELLA
ON THE BEAT” ON FRIDAY, JUNE 15

Will Meet and Visit with Residents and Business Owners

(June 14, 2012) --- Mayor Pedro E. Segarra and Interim Chief James Rovella announced today that they will begin “On the Beat” this Friday, June 15 at about 8:00PM.  Mayor Segarra started “On the Beat” last summer with then Chief Daryl K. Roberts to directly engage with residents and business owners throughout Connecticut’s Capital City and discuss public safety, security or any other concerns in a private and direct setting.

“This is an initiative that I am incredibly proud of and am happy to be moving it forward for a second year.  No issue is more important than public safety.  Job creation, a good education, expanding homeownership and increasing vibrancy and excitement throughout our great City are all predicated on making sure that people feel safe and are safe.  Being able to engage in serious and constructive conversations with residents, visitors and business owners is critical to building relationships, hearing and resolving complaints and enhancing the success of our community policing plan,” said Mayor Segarra.

Chief Rovella added, “As a 20 year veteran of the Hartford Police Department, and Chief Inspector for the Division of Criminal Justice, I know first-hand the importance of communicating directly and face-to-face with the community and building trust.  I firmly believe that consistent, direct engagement by Hartford’s leaders and public safety personnel will pay significant dividends for Hartford.”

Mayor Segarra and Chief Rovella will meet in front of City Hall at 8PM on Friday and will be immediately available for press and media interviews.  They will also be available throughout the evening.  To arrange a time to meet with Mayor Segarra and Chief Rovella on Friday night, please call Jared Kupiec, Chief of Staff and Acting Director of Communications and New Media, at 860-692-2711.
