HARTFORD POLICE SWEEP OF CHILD SEXUAL PREDATORS
(Hartford) – Mayor Pedro E. Segarra and Hartford Police Chief Daryl K.
Roberts today announced the Hartford Police Department Detective Bureau
Juvenile Investigative Division initiated a multi-agency arrest and
apprehension sweep of non-compliant registered sex offenders and child
sexual assault predators.
The “sweep”, conducted on September 1st, 2011, was the result of
43 investigations and included visits to 61 locations and 28 arrests.
Lead by detectives from the Juvenile Investigative Division’s Sex
Offender Registry Unit and Child Abuse and Neglect Investigations Team, the
multi-agency effort included Deputy Marshals from the United States Marshals
Service, Connecticut District, Troopers from the Connecticut State Police,
Probation Officers from the Connecticut Judicial Branch Adult Probation,
Parole Officers from the Connecticut Department of Corrections Division of
Parole, a Case worker from the
Department of Children and Families, and Police Officers from the Hartford
Police Department Community Services Bureau
The Operation was further aided by the New Britain and Manchester
Police Departments who assisted in locating wanted sex offenders who were
currently residing in their respective communities.
Attached is a map
indentifying the locations of the 28 arrests for one or more criminal acts
of:
Sexual Assault 1st

degree, Sexual Assault 4th
degree, Risk of Injury/Impairing the Morals of a Minor/Child, Unlawful
Restraint 2nd

Additional arrests are expected.
In commenting on the results of the roundup, Hartford Police Chief Daryl K.
Roberts said, “The community should know that many of the offenders were not
strangers to the victim and they should use as much care and concern for the
friends they keep as they would a stranger. Be involved in your child’s
life. Show them the way and they
will follow.”
Deputy Chief Scott M. Sansom, Chief of Detectives, stated, “I am proud of
the commitment and dedication of the detectives in the Juvenile
Investigative Division in protecting our most vulnerable and enforcing sex
offender registry laws, reinforcing
Chief Daryl K. Robert’s mantra of “Service-Relationships-Safety”.
Detective Victor Otero and Officer Josh Lewis,
assigned to the Department’s Sex Offender Registry Unit, were
responsible for the planning and success of this operation under the
supervision of Sergeant Matthew Eisele and Lieutenant Dustin Rendock.
Lieutenant Rendock remarked,
“Detective Otero and Officer Lewis are very enthusiastic and tenacious in
their assignment in the Sex Offender Registry Unit.”
The Juvenile Investigative Division is charged with the responsibility of
investigating suspected child physical and sexual abuse and neglect cases,
