HARTFORD SHOOTING TEAM MAKES ARREST IN INVESTIGATION (Hartford) - Mayor Pedro E. Segarra praised the Hartford Shooting Team for another successful shooting investigation that led to the arrest of Giovanni Figueroa, 33, of 278 Barbour Street, Hartford, in connection with a November 5th, 2010 shooting that occurred on Earle Street in Hartford. Mayor Segarra said, "This is another excellent example of the successful state and local partnership the Hartford Shooting Team represents. I am very proud of this team, their commitment and focus and the results thus far are quite positive." Assistant Chief Horvath stated, "The Hartford Shooting Team, after a lengthy investigation, secured an arrest warrant for Figueroa on July 20th, 2010, as the accused shooter in the November 5th incident. Figueroa was taken into custody by members of the Hartford Shooting Team on the evening of July 20th, 2011 without incident." Figueroa, who remains in custody on $500,000, was charged with first degree assault, criminal use of a firearm, commission of a class A, B, and C felony with a firearm.
On November 5, 2010, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Hartford police officers responded to 190 Earle Street on a report of a person shot. Officers learned that a victim suffering from a gunshot wound had been transported to St. Francis Hospital by private vehicle. The victim was for non-life threaten treatment of a gunshot would. The Hartford Shooting Team, reinstated by Mayor Pedro E. Segarra and Chief State's Attorney Kevin Kane on July 1st, 2011, is a partnership between the Hartford Police Department, Office of the Hartford State's Attorney, Office of the Chief State's Attorney, the Connecticut State Police, the Department of Corrections, and the East Hartford, West Hartford and Manchester police departments, and is charged with investigating gun violence and bringing those responsible for such violence to prosecution. It also collaborates with the Violent Crimes Bureau and the Witness Protection Unit in the Office of the Chief State's Attorney and in conjunction with the Central Connecticut Cold Case Task Force.
