HARTFORD POLICE ISSUE PUBLIC SAFETY MESSAGE

(Hartford) – Every winter, cars are stolen because owners leave them unattended with the keys in the ignition while the cars warm up and the windshield defrosts.

Some owners will go inside for just a few seconds to collect a bag, drink their coffee, let the dog in or say goodbye to their family - but that is all the time an opportunist thief needs.

In addition, if your house keys are stolen as well, you are making your home and family vulnerable.

Don’t be left walking –

  • Use a scraper and your defroster to clear your windshields
  • Sit in your vehicle while the car warms up and your windshield defrosts
  • Be on alert for suspicious people in your neighborhood AND remember:

A VEHICLE LEFT RUNNING & UNATTENDED SENDS A STRONG MESSAGE TO THIEVES!
